round skylight

Around the Boardroom

“Good morning everyone, sorry I’m late.” Jim walked into a meeting already underway. Senior members of SKARKRAFT Industries sat arrayed around a large round table, previous discussions now muted.

The boardroom was a cross between a joke and a shared childhood admiration of Jim and Nathaniel Skarsgard.

Centered in a large open room was a smooth round wooden table. Surrounding the table were chairs, the backs of which were also round in precise arcs matching that of the table. Above in the ceiling was a large glass skylight where bright rays of sunlight reflected as through a prism that momentarily blinded Jim’s eyes. The skylight came to a high peak where tips of individual panes of triangular glass terminated their pointing.

It was silly, but Jim thought they looked like enormous arrowhead points like one would see in CAD software and when thus arranged the whole thing looked like a little drink umbrella, of course on a much larger scale.

The room was a destination of mental relaxation. That is if one was of the type to notice misaligned furniture or a crooked picture hanging on the wall. Everything here was perfectly arranged and balanced.

“Good morning Jim.” It was Jim’s good friend Nathan, co-founder of SKARKRAFT Industries. “You’re not late at all. Good to see you.”

“Nate, You’re back! How was California?”

“I am, and I brought some good news with me.”

Jim settled into his favorite chair at the table, purposefully left open by the others.

To a layman, everything in the room looked identical, but Jim had his quirks, his habits. There was a reason all was aligned and ordered.

“What’s this?” A glass of champagne sat alone on the table in front of him. He looked up and surveyed the faces of those around him and watched as solemnity turned to smiles.

As one the members seated around the table raised their own glasses of champagne and Nate sounded, “a toast!”

Nate continued, “To our new partnership with Spelek Technologies!”

A cheer went up around the table, and everyone sipped and drank from their glasses.

Jim and Nathan locked eyes and grinned, then together accompanied by a mutual nod lifted their own glasses and drank.

Since starting SKARKRAFT, the Military and subsequently the U.S. Government had been a significant financial supporter. But Jim and Nathan dreamed of a time when they wouldn’t need to rely on them as the primary source of income.

Merging with Spelek Technologies didn’t mean that they would completely stop working with the government. The SK8 gen(1) had sizable military application ranging from intelligence collection and dissemination all the way down to the 11B on the ground in the thick of the action.

But, it did mean that SKARKRAFT was much more balanced as a company and both Jim and Nathan were excited about the implications of working in such a different industry sector.

Spelek Technologies was a giant in virtual reality gaming software. The highest grossing mobile game in history came from their engineers combining their software with a peripheral device able to project and overlay VR constructs into our everyday lives.

The peripheral device? The SK8 gen(1).
