The Ego is Many and Strong

Hands and arms stretching up, grasping. Pulling. Generations of hands spanning thousands of years relentlessly dragging you down, trapping you. Imprisoning you in the mistakes of millennia. Embracing you in the bosom of genetic hell. There is no escape. They are always there, waiting. One false step and they will again find purchase and will never let go.

These are the images pondered this morning. There is a primordial force, an alter ego, fighting for control, for dominance. It’s always there, waiting for an opening. That devil on your shoulder whispering bad advice. Not a devil, though, thousands of egos, one from every generation before you, all vying to be heard. All trying to live again through you.

How can one man resist so many? He can’t, not all the time. How do I build a mental fortrace so strong that I can withstand so many?

You need help.

Help can come in many forms and will have varying levels of success. The first thing you need to do, however, is forgive yourself. What is done is done. Love yourself. Know thyself and love yourself.

When you truly love a thing, could you hurt that thing? When you truly love yourself, would you not then take better care of yourself?

Oh, but the ego is many and strong. It prays on your insecurities. Your weaknesses. And that is your path, the way out of its grasp. Find your weakness, identify it, and make it a strength. It is not the action that is a weakness it s the underlying reason it felt so good to do.

Why?
