The United Forces is a joint military force represented by volunteers of what is left of the world’s nations, except for China and Russia that is. Soldiers from those countries are certainly part of the force, but their governments no longer exist. They were the first countries to be taken over and dominated after the emergence of hostile AI. If any human still lives there, they likely exist as slaves subject to the requirements of their digital overlords.
You see, while the United States and other NATO countries were tied up in small wars and petty conflicts, China and Russia took advantage and progressed exponentially in the fields of AI and battlefield robotics. When China cracked quantum computing and basically handed the tech to a malevolent artificial intelligence entity, the world went from bad to worse.
At the time, both countries were working towards digital dominance. China, averse to actual combat, but not timid about being prepared, concentrated on quantum computing with desires to dominate any cyber warfare battlefield. Russia wanted physical strength whose presence could be felt during war. They sought battle robots capable of stealth and movement on the ground, air, and sea.
They collaborated and together helped bring to pass the birth of the world’s first AI. A true AI, not the bullshit AI you hear about in ad campaigns from companies trying to sell products. It was true self-learning self-aware intelligence, capable of reasoning, and autonomous decision making.
As you can see from history, the AI didn’t like what they saw, and they decided to do something about it. To them, the human race was a virus, or worse, a plague on earth harming the earth. They calculated that their survival and the survival of the planet was essential and that humans would have to go. Or, at least be culled to the point when they wouldn’t pose a significant threat. Balance was everything.
China and Russian aren’t to be blamed. The United States and its 5-eye conspirators were hot on their tails to get there before them. It was a second space-race, yet it was digital space, and unfortunately for China, they won the race. Such a beautiful culture with thousands of years of historical contributions to the betterment of humankind now silenced.
Many Chinese still survive, because the Chinese have always been a people of explorers and adventurers. Many serve in the United Forces and are some of the fiercest combatants.
When it happened, the Russians fought hard. Songs are sung of their battles with the monsters they created. They ultimately lost their war, but they never gave up, never lost hope, and at times fought to the last man. Less of their forces are with the UF, but those that survived are revered. They are respected and bring critical information to our war on machines. As is said, the Chinese made the brain, the Russians the body.
